Statistical tests were run to determine differences in variables between horses that raced after surgery and those who didn't, as well as to compare pre- and post-surgical racing performance. The proximal phalanx was fractured in 101 of the 245 horses (41.2 percent) and 145 (58.8 percent) of the horses had condylar fractures. Of the repaired fractures, 159 (64.9 percent) were bicortical and 86 (35.1 percent) were unicortical fissure fractures.
